This week the SWD Chapter Spotlight is on the La Crosse FFA Chapter!
The La Crosse FFA Chapter has many new and exciting things planned for this year. While working to increase member involvement, we will partake in “Day on the Farm/Shop” where elementary students will learn about safety on the farm and shop, as well as getting to view many different kinds of livestock. During milo harvest, our chapter has planned a “Harvest Appreciation Week.” We will bake goods and deliver them to our local farmers and farm help, with a note attached that expresses our gratitude for what they do. Every year, we also put on an “Ag Olympics” where students at La Crosse High School participate in timed activities (piggy-back barrell patterns, bale stacking, catching a greased pig, horse shoe toss, etc) and compete for the best time. New to our POA this year, we will also be hosting our school’s first Talent Show! The La Crosse FFA Chapter will also be holding our annual “Labor Auction” where we provide supper for those in attendance and then auction off each member to people of the community for 8 hours of work. During FFA Week, we have many things planned. USD 395 has a teacher inservice on the Monday of FFA week and the officer team along with several other members have decided to come in early Monday morning to prepare a “Teachers Appreciation Breakfast.” We will be advertising a spirit week, where everyone is encouraged to wear different outfits every day of the week. “Drive Your Tractor to School Day” is also in our POA during FFA week. We are eager for the new year and look forward to all the opportunities and different experiences that FFA brings. Great work La Crosse FFA! This weeks chapter spotlight is on the Hugoton FFA Chapter! Since the beginning of the school year, Hugoton FFA has been busy hosting a teacher luncheon, having a chapter picnic, and studiously studying for CDE's in the classroom. As apart of community development, the chapter put on a luncheon the day before school started to show our appreciation to the teachers that prepare our members to succeed as they enter the work force or higher education. The chapter also wanted to start the FFA year off with a celebration of our new members by organizing a chapter wide picnic with some fun games that included getting a little wet. Since then, new and old members alike have been learning and improving upon their knowledge to compete in district CDE's. Everyone at Hugoton FFA is looking forward to an exciting year in the organization, there is still so much to do and learn! Great work Hugoton FFA! The South Central FFA Chapter, located in Coldwater, KS, is focused on community service and leadership development. We are working with groups in the communities on ways to give back, focusing on advocating in the community, and teaching the youth about agriculture and agriculture products. Leadership development for our members is happening through having local events that promote leadership, encouraging members to attend CDE's and LDE's, as well as conventions and conferences. Some of the highlights of this chapter include the PALS program, work auction, community service, greenhand celebration, CDE participation, and monthly activities. Great work South Central FFA!
